Trump’s New Mar-a-Lago Bust Sparks Roasts Over Resemblance and Appearance
Donald Trump has always had a penchant for the spotlight, and his recent escapades to Mar-a-Lago are no exception. The former president, known for his larger-than-life personality, has been using the exclusive resort as a retreat from the political turmoil in Washington, D.C. This weekend, he once again took a break from the daily grind, choosing instead to indulge in golf and relaxation at his Florida estate.
During this time, Trump made an appearance at the Republican Party of Palm Beach’s Abraham Lincoln Day Gala on March 20, where he was the special guest. The event featured a unique display that caught the attention of many: a gold sculpture of Trump, complete with his signature hat, collar shirt, and suit jacket. The statue, which was placed on a marble stand engraved with names of Republican founders and contributors, drew both admiration and criticism.
The 198-pound bronze sculpture, plated in 24-karat gold, was presented to Trump during the gala. Despite the statue’s resemblance to him, it sparked mixed reactions. Some critics found it difficult to recognize the president in the artwork, noting discrepancies in features such as his hair and neck. One observer remarked, “Wow, look at that thick, flowing hair and that snatched neckline. In his dreams.” Others were equally unimpressed, calling the bust “hilariously hideous” and questioning its accuracy.
The comments continued to roll in, with some people joking about the statue’s appearance. A few even compared it to a farm animal, with one person suggesting it resembled a “State Fair cow sculpture made out of 5000 sticks of butter.” Others pointed out the lack of similarity between the sculpture and Trump, with one user commenting, “They got the color wrong. It’s more of a Cheeto dust hue,” referencing his signature orange complexion.
Polish model and gala sponsor Caroline Marie Derpienski shared behind-the-scenes photos and videos of the event, including images of Trump near the statue and clips of his interactions with guests. These glimpses into the evening provided a glimpse of the atmosphere surrounding the former president.
In addition to the statue at the gala, Trump has another monument at his Trump International Golf Club. Created by filmmaker Steven Barber, this $300,000 statue features the president wearing a red tie over a gold shirt, holding a red MAGA hat in one hand and a raised fist in the other. The image is a nod to his stance after being grazed by a bullet at a 2024 rally in Pennsylvania.
This carefully curated image of defiance isn’t just a photo op—it’s starting to feel like a preview of something bigger. Trump has been heralding his second term as America’s “golden age,” and his renovations to the White House reflect his love for the precious metal. Since moving back in, he has covered the Oval Office with gold decorations, torn up the Rose Garden to construct a paved patio called “The Rose Garden Club,” and lined the West Colonnade with portraits of past presidents in gold frames to create the “Presidential Walk of Fame.”
His biggest project is constructing a ballroom—like everything else, it too would be covered in gold accents—where the East Wing was formerly located. But the newest project might be an extensive remodeling of the second-floor Treaty Room in the White House, which The New York Times reports he plans to turn into a guest bedroom with an en suite bathroom.
